Laying Down Tricks

Hoodoo spells are sometimes called laying down tricks or sometimes just laying down. This practice isn’t always associated with “negative” acts like jinxing or hexing (although it certainly can be) but it just means that something it laid down or buried in a spot where someone is likely to walk over it. It’s just as likely that someone has laid down a blessing as it is that they put a curse in your path.

Laying down tricks isn’t always just associated with burying objects or powders. You can lay down in anything, from inside someone’s food, to sewn inside the lining of his or her clothing. Nearly anything a person comes into contact with can house a trick.
